Adam Pua, Advisor, Cello

Adam Pua is a sophomore at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins, studying cello performance under Alan Stepansky and previously, Katherine Schultz and John Hubbard. In 2020, Adam was a winner of the Cognizart Van Buren YAD competition. He received the Monday Musical Club Scholarship in 2018. Adam started playing cello when he was six. He was a member of the Portland Youth Philharmonic organization for five seasons. He played in both the All State and All Northwest orchestras. He has attended many summer festivals, including the Portland Summer ensemble, the Marrowstone Music festival, and the advanced string quartet program at the Interlochen Arts Festival in 2019. Adam attended the Japanese magnet program in Portland and is proficient in Japanese language and culture.  

Jay Choi, Advisor, Viola

Jay Choi is a college freshman. He began playing the viola at the age of 11 and currently studies under Brian Quincey. He has participated in numerous musical events such as OSAA State Solo Competition,  All Northwest, and National Youth Orchestra 2. He has won the OMEA State Ensemble Competition in 2018 and 2019 for large and small ensemble respectively. He also has been playing in the Portland Youth Philharmonic for four years and is the assistant principal of the viola section. In his free time, Jay volunteers at a food bank with his local church. He also enjoys playing tennis, golf, and table tennis with his friends and family.

Hae-Jin Kim, Senior Advisor, Music

Violinist Hae-Jin Kim received her Bachelor's and Master's Degree from the Eastman School of Music where she was awarded the prestigious Performer's Certificate and the Starling Foundation Award. She is currently an Assistant Concertmaster of the Oregon Ballet Theatre Orchestra, a member of the Portland Opera Orchestra, and the first violinist of the WildWood String Quartet. 


As an active performer, Hae-Jin has served as Concertmaster of the Oregon Music Festival Orchestra, Pearl Chamber Orchestra, Bridgetown Orchestra and Oregon Repertory Singers Orchestra. She also plays with the Oregon Symphony, Portland Chamber Orchestra, and Portland SummerFest Opera. She has played in the Astoria Music Festival, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Rochester Oratorio Society Orchestra, and Brockport Symphony.  As a chamber musician, she has appeared in numerous performances including Free Marz String Trio of March Music Moderne, NW New Music, Artesan String Quartet, Asiana String Quartet, and Pacifica Trio. 


Hae-Jin is a member of American String Teachers Association and Music Teachers National Association/Oregon Music Teachers Association. She has a private teaching studio in NW Portland and a faculty member of the Chamber Music Camp of Portland.
